The wind was refusing to lie down and die, and a moral-sapping headwind along the A421 put paid to his hopes of dipping under 4 hours. He was on course at 50 miles, going through in 1:57, but like most of the riders he gave up the gains in the final 15 miles off the A1. But this new version of the F1/100 looks like it could be quick on a more normal day.
