Odam 10’s Series 2012

19 April 2012

The programme opened on Wed 18th April and so did the heavens, depositing a good deal of surface water on the A414 just as the event started. Despite the conditions, seven candidates with suspect mental capacity faced the starter for the sole purpose of bagging some points in the absence of more fragile souls. Ian Bibby was the lucky one as his final yards to the start were accompanied by the unwelcome (or maybe not in this case) bump, bump, bump, from his rear wheel denoting another tub destined for the scrap heap; at least his first DNS of the season is now behind him.
Peter Douglas was first away on his gleaming track bike, with super aggressive sprinters drops somewhere around level with the front axle, watched balefully by his minute man, Dave Snowdon, clearly having second thoughts about the enterprise. Last man off was Dan Northover making a very welcome return to the series he won by one point from Tom Boulton in 2008.
All starters made it to the finish just as the light was succumbing to overcast skies. There were no incidents reported although a rumour persists that Dave Snowdon went off course; surely that can’t be true. Say it ain’t so Dave; Say it ain’t so.
Matt Southerden, 2010 winner, leads after round 1.
