Track Days at Newport
Both this year’s Track Days were a success. Our numbers were swelled by friends from Lea Valley CC. With London not opening before 2013, we’ll probably still be at Newport for these outings next winter. I already have dates but I doubt anyone will be planning that far in advance!  More on the track further down.

Tour of Flanders Weekend. Another year done!
And it was a dry and moderately warm one for the new course. We will miss the Muur and even the Bosberg but it was a thumbs up from me for three times round the Oude Kwaaremont and the Paterberg and the spectating opportunities that offered. Flanders got their winner in Boonen and everyone went home happy.
For the Sportive, it was first time for Dave K on the Flanders pave and Sam went the distance on no training whatever (as usual). Vince, a week short of his 72nd birthday, kept his powder dry until the final 12k and left a few aching legs behind him on the headwind run in. He credits coach, John Capelin, with this twilight renaissance. John and Helen joined us for the weekend’s fun and seemed somewhat bemused as the empty Duval glasses piled up on Friday night (or was it Saturday? Or maybe both). Find John at Sports Coaching

The Dieppe Raid in 2012?
I’m repeating this one from the previous newsletter. Can we drum up interest?
A blast from the past! Hands up who remembers the club’s trips to this 200km randonee? Touring the three valleys with legendary names like Audax Dave, Postman Ray, Taxi Bob ,Pig Farmer John. and of course, the late great Nev Chanin.
Well, there’s some talk of reviving the club trip to this weekend during June.
Watch this space or let me know if you’re interested
Here’s a taste:

New Members
We extend a sincere welcome to three new members since the last newsletter and trust they will enjoy a long and active time with the club. Step forward:-

Racing
There’s been a fair bit going on and it’s all well reported on the club’s Facebook page for those that want more details. A couple of crashes and some members showing early form on hard days. Happy reading!

Track League and Training at Welwyn
I won’t be there for the first couple of weeks but the racing starts Friday April 20th. Then it’s regular training sessions every Monday night and Saturdays for complete novices.
Let me know if you’d like more info or see you there. Pete Douglas has threatened to show and, with Tom Boulton also keen, we are in danger of having a team.

Other local (well, almost….) stuff
The Lea Valley Hog Hill 10s start mid May.
The Brickendon North road 10s can’t be far off.
Further details on their websites. Bound to be a few fellow Finzberries at these.

ECCA Festival
This is also looming on the horizon. Gray is trying to organise a good showing from us. There are events for everyone so let’s support his efforts and give some of the ECCA regulars a bit of a scare or at least make them work for the points. Details on Face book again.

Summer Club Runs
Once again, these are continuing to run through the Summer months. There are plenty of members not racing and it’s still the best introduction to the club for new riders. Potters Bar, Sunday 9.30, as per the winter and it seems to have fallen to Peter Bullen to organise and co-ordinate things. You can just turn up or contact Peter if you want to volunteer to lead.

MARSHALS!!!!!!!!
You’ve all had this from Kevin and I make no excuses for this reprint – especially since I’m organising the 50 on May 19th and need all the help I can get!

Hello….Members of the Finsbury Park Cycling Club old and new. As Club Chairman, one of my jobs is to gather marshals and helpers for our forthcoming promotions this year. As all club members will know, and have been informed when they joined the club, the only commitment that we want from any of our members is to help at least one or two times per year. It is fundamentally important to the running of the club and cycling sport in general that we promote and organise safe events during the season. There are more procedures than ever for event organisers to deal with, to ensure events are safe and organised as dictated by the governing bodies.  The last thing they would want to worry about is help for each of their events, as they have enough to do as it is. Finsbury Park CC is running two open time trials, one time trial on behalf of our membership to the ECCA, supplying help to a Norlond event, and our own road race. These events are spread out through the year, and it is my job to assist our organisers. Please remember that in all areas of club cycling, be it the Sunday Run, club evening time trails, to fully open races, are only able to run because someone has given up their own free time. With a membership of 100 plus members, we are more then up to the task of supplying helpers and marshals. Below is listing of events for this year, please e-mail me back on want events you can cover. Once again, I cannot stress how important this is for Finsbury Park Cycling Club.
Kind Regards
Kevin Megan
Club Chairman
