The season gets underway with a wet and cold start
FPCC Reliability Ride Sunday 21st February

The weather for this year’s Reliability Ride was pretty horrendous. From the safety of the HQ, I watched downpours punctuated by showers of horizontal sleet and my bike didn’t move from the back of the car.
Well done to all those who braved it. I think you were all mad. Riders came back to base in dribs and drabs with tales of roads under slush and ice and slippery cold conditions all over the course.
Thanks to Hugh for his usual able administration of the event. All the money raised went to RoadPeace so all your suffering was in a good and necessary cause.

The North Road Hardriders 25m TT Sunday 28th February

If the Reliability Ride didn’t finish you for the year it was probably good preparation for those on the start list for the North Road Hardriders. The forecast sleet and high winds didn’t materialise but boy did it rain and wasn’t it cold!
The course was in a dreadful state with water running across all the low points and the surface completely broken up practically all the way round. I drove round rescuing the inevitable puncture victims and the Lower Essendon Road was almost impassable. One of the big floods down there knocked out all the electrics on my car and cost me a can of WD40. It was that or swim for it!
Somehow, most riders got round even if they had to wear full winter gear and waterproofs to do it. Nobody drowned or disappeared down a pothole and the worst victim appeared to be the unfortunate rider who was ambulanced away from the HQ with hypothermia. I’m told he made a slow but full recovery.

A very sodden “chapeau!” then to these FPCC riders:

20th Matt Molloy 01:09:07
35th   Philip Murrell 01:12:49
40th Ian Turner 01:15:40
45th Bob Pisolkar 01:18:09
49th Graham Freer 01:20:22

If you think the above is the customary exaggeration and hyperbole that so often enlivens my reporting, here’s the proof. Be amazed:
